The words of James Baldwin say it all. ‘History, I contend, is the present-we, with every breath we take, every move we make, are History’.
 
The Historical Mount Zion Baptist Church, 419 North Elgin, Tulsa, Oklahoma became an official member of the National Historic Register on Thursday evening , June 5, 2009 at the annual ceremony of the Oklahoma Historical Society at Quartz Mountains.
 
The delegation of members and friends travelled to this beautiful part of Oklahoma to be a testament to the founders of the historical Mount Zion Baptist Church and to support its 100th Anniversary on August 14-16th.
 
As the area of Greenwood has been transformed with the building of Oklahoma State University, Langston Tulsa, the proposed Franklin Reconciliation Park, Drillers Stadium and other commercial and arts projects, the spirit and mission of the founders of Mount Zion and the people who are least remembered rings loud in the mission of Mount Zion. The Church that Faith Built to stand in the Gap to serve mankind. Mount Zion was founded August 1909, burned to the ground during the Tulsa Race Holocaust of 1921, rebuilt in 1954 and now with over 30 ministries strives to bring the spirit and word of Jesus to those who seek to be empowered to make this world a better place for all.
 
The public is invited to attend the Sunday Services at 10:45am each Sunday, Wednesday Noon Bible Study and Wednesday Evening prayer service at 6:30pm. Dr. Leroy M. Cole is senior pastor and Reverend G. Calvin McCutchen, Sr. is pastor emeritus.

I am glad to see Mount Zion moving toward building a great website to pull in the people of the world to the church that faith built.
